Now, on to the news…

While many of the nationwide anti-ICE protests have been peaceful, they have created an opening for aggressive activist groups to get involved. Indeed, two such groups—Centro Community Service Organization (Centro CSO) and the Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO)—are already pushing militancy into protests. These groups have long histories of revolutionary politics, and they use online channels to promote unlawful actions against federal authorities.

“What began as criticism of federal immigration policy is now tied up with illegal, targeted agitation campaigns,” Stu Smith writes. “Anti-ICE Democrats and centrists need to take responsibility for policing their movements, or they risk being seen as willing participants in escalating radicalism.”

In his new book Football, Chuck Klosterman argues that the sport is doomed. “He claims that America, which today shells out billions for NFL tickets, will eventually consider the game an anachronism, like jazz or indoor smoking,” John Hirschauer observes. Why?

Two factors, according to Klosterman: declining ad revenue and safety. Advertisers will eventually stop spending money on TV spots, and fewer Americans will value the sport as they grow increasingly concerned about concussions and injuries.

But even if he’s right, Hirschauer argues, “doomsday is a long way off.”
