Kicking the can down the road is the game at which the Democratic leadership has mastered quite well.No matter how JB spins it I don't think anybody is going to buy into any tax increases, not in this economy.People are finally waking up to the fact that the standard of living is deteriorating and are finally realizing this is all a big scam.Going to enjoy the howling from the PEU's and teachers when this initiative goes down in flames.
Moonbeam is an incompetent lackey of the gangsters who run the public employee unions. The once Golden State is going to hell becuase of liberals like him.
Amen to that! Most multimillionairs who provide jobs to Californians have enough lawyers and resources to claim Nevada residency and so they should. Viva Las Vegas!
The criminal organization of democrats belong in prison, not positions of power. They have proven they do not exist to serve the American people, they exist and survive off the American people. It's long over due we put these traitors of our Constitution in their place. Vote them out of existence and remove them from positions in Government by force if necessary.
I wish all of the Californians that left California would go back. The ones that are still there, should stay. They are the idiots who voted for the politicians and wanted the policies that govern them. Now they may infect the elections in the places they move to in the same manner in which they destroyed California. Why don't all of the liberals and socialists move and stay in California, Illinois, Massachussettes and all of the other, ran into the ground states and cities of the liberal/socialist utopias accross the country! Stay away Californians!!!
What California does not seem to understand is that now that California is seen as a poor place to do business, there will no longer be a net migration in of business owners. While everyone seems to focus on the numbers of business owners leaving, no one can count the number of business owners who decided not to come to California. California will have high unemployment for the next twenty years, not only because of demographics, but because it is seen as a poor place to do business. California is the new Michigan.
Great analysis. better than anything I see in the newspaper
Apparently CA citizens are finding out the hard way that it is indeed the Golden (shower) State.
In Britain last year they raised the income tax rate on 'the rich' to over 50%. Revenues went down. People left the country. People retired or cut their business dealings drastically. Raising taxes to a higher level than serfs paid in the Middle Ages is not the key to a vibrant economy. I'm appalled that 64% of my fellow Californians are stupid enough to even consider voting to give more money to those thieving Democrats until I remember how ridiculously skewed polls generally are in this one-party-media state. There has to be a tipping point where people will have had enough of liberal failure and the widespread misery it has caused and will rise up and toss them out like they have done in Wisconsin and Michigan. We need a Chris Christie in this state.
California gets what California deserves.
If only spending more money on schools would improve students's academic performance, especially disadvantaged blacks and hispanics. But it won't as it hasn't. Our previous Prop to cut class sizes only raised costs, not performance. I guess we will never learn.
My advice for you upper scale type folks is move out of here! Hastily! With such a toxic system here it seems the only direction for this beautiful state is sadly DOWN. Now you illegals, welfare recipients, and vagrants, oh and public service employees, STAY! And apply for more!!
Public Employees and their Unions have no bounds to their greed. Until this is dealt with, California will not be able to provide proper Education for its young or help to its poor.
The two "bedrock priciples" of the democrats isn't "children and education" , it's "tax and spend".
liberals are cowards. plain. and. simple.
when the costs to support their fantasical utopias become unsustainable, they always blame the producers in society for not sacrificing more of their hard-earned money.
They have "no appetite for tax increases", yet they continue to elect the party of eternal tax hikes. Brilliant.
Just a couple more totally ridiculous propositions I get to vote NO on.
CRIME, CACTUS and POTHOLES
Having lived here since 1964,I have observed "Golden California"erode to"Mexifornia" The crime scene reveals: hundreds of businesses & thousands of people leaving here annually, unemployment steadily increasing, education costing more with poorer results, the formerly rich Central Valley farms producing cactus, the freeways full of potholes, criminals overflowing in our prisons, regulations increasing costs exponentily and the quality of life gradually decreasing.
ALL, which can be laid at the feet of legislaters who sold their souls to unions, environmental radicals & Progressive Utopians!
Governor Brown, himself, created public service unions in his first time as our governor. Democrats, through redistricting, make it impossible for a Republican to get elected. The citizen`s voices matter to Sacramento, only a little!
"Tribal politics" are the norm. Example: Governor Brown & his cronies want a high speed railroad that will add Billions to our unsustainable debt, will debut in a small town to another small town in the Central Valley that has NO hope for profit, without state subsidies, for decades because there are no
passengers in that area.
Yet he wonders why we are opposed to tax increases. (...it is like a bankrupt family getting a new credit card and buying an expensive new car on that credit!...)
If I sound hopeless to you, that would be correct. (...except to Jerry Brown...)
The working class and the business people are bailing from California in droves. If you don't believe me, google it.
That leaves the illegals, Movie stars and other millionaires, the very poor who can't move and the public sector union workers.
Soon, Gov Moonbeam will be asking for a Federal bailout. I say screw California and all other irresponsible states.
I lived in Cal in the 1970's and it was still very cool. I hate to see it crash but it will.
Hey Jerry, we're finally at the tipping point. If this tax passes, I plan to buy a home in Jackson Hole. Then, California will get 13.3% of ZERO from me. I am willing to pay a tax premium to live in California. But, I refuse to continue paying for the massive over-spending and inefficiencies in the CA state government. California's state government is a jumble of over-layered, overlapping, mismanaged departments staffed by overpaid bureaucrats.
Wow, so much hate for California and before I lived here I had similar feelings - "you made your bed, now sleep in it". After living through a few elections, however, it is very clear that the unions OWN this state. No politician does anything without the blessing of the unions.
If you removed the Bay Area and LA, you would find the majority of the state to be conservative, but nothing in this state will change until the unions are defeated or until all the public money that feeds the unions dries up. Unfortunately, I don't think the the feds will allow CA to default.
The Governator gave it a good swing in 2005 or 2006, but what the unions were able muster against his proposals was flat out imposing. Your prayers are appreciated...
Please be an educated voter. Check out this new fact checking website:
We must conclude that Californians secretly approve how things are going in their state (evidenced by the politicians they vote for). The surrounding states (Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Oregon) really love how the businesses, assets, jobs and highly qualified workers are fleeing California to bolster their own economies. California taxpayers also cover the societal expenses of most of the illegals--so everyone is getting what they want out of this win-win situation. (However, I'd hate to be a business owner in California.) Jerry Brown is the perfect guy to maintain this situation for everyone.
Little mentioned is what is happening in the California's counties. Sonoma County, long known for wine and outstanding food, is in such dire straits that its Public Works Department anticipates that over 1,000 miles of its county road system (86%) is expected to revert to dirt or gravel within the next decade. The costs to address this could approach $1 billion, which is about equal to Sonoma County's unfunded pension liability. Save Our Sonoma Roads, a grassroots organziation, has been formed to lobby county supervisors to adequately fund the road system.
California is Soooooooooooo Screwed.
Agree 100% with this article....California is just 10 years ahead of where the deems are taking our country...The entire USA is not far behind. California is going bankrupt...no money=no retirement benefits...its funny watching this state ingest itself with democrat policies...have fun California! LOL
Don't be so confident that people in this State won't vote for this increase. The people in CA are very brainwashed and very ignorant of numerous things (mostly due to the brainwashing). It's really a done deal already that CA wil be in perpetual decline. The stupidity and stubbornness of our citizens guarantees it. For the time being, we have guns. One protection against the ignorant masses when the unsustainable mess they have voted to create collapses. God knows we will need them.
Good for you, California. People get the government they deserve and you deserve the mess you are in. You keep electing these people into office. I just pray that the U.S. Government doesn't bail you out.
Congratulations California. This is what you get for electing another tax-and-spend liberal as governor. You have killed the goose that laid the golden egg. Hang on the our guns and bibles because this won't be pretty.
In my opinion, Brown should increase taxes on sales tax to 50%, increase taxes for those making $250,000 and above to 99%. I'm sure all Democrats especially liberals, SEIU and teachers union would be celebrating if Brown would do this. I don't give a hoot if Californians pay taxes up to their eyeballs, I don't live in the land of fruits and nuts. Even relatives living in California, left the state in 2010, now living in Texas. Their reason for doing it, they can't afford to live in California anymore, all kinds taxes; they've become slave to the state.
Everyone Californian is suffering except Government employees, teachers, union workers. A janitor working for the California government earns $22 while one working in private sector earns $10.
What we need to worry about is the Federal Government propping up this scam by giving California any amount of money.
They went this path, if they fail they do not deserve to be bailed out. The rest of us should not be dragged down with them.
This is the difference between DemoRats and Republicans: DemoRats want to kill the Golden Goose to steal the golden eggs, while Republicans wants to create conditions for more Golden Goose to lay more golden eggs.
I have long contended that the sign at state borders should read not "Welcome to California" but "Abandon hope all ye who enter here."
California wont be able to get out of this mess. When they default they will have to sell assets such as the bridges-highways -beaches -parks, as well as the offshore oil rights then there will be an explosion in jobs and opportunities.
Loaded up the Truck and MOVED OUT OF BEVERLY. Hills that is.
California the Golden state, Obama and the Democrats model for American future, is fast becoming the poster child for an bankrupt third world State!
An unholy alliance of Socialist Democrat politicians, Unions, and Illegal Aliens supporters are feasting at the trough of tax payers paid benefits while taxing & regulating business and the tax paying public into poverty.
The pandering of Left Wing Democrat Politicians to their constituency of Unions, Illegal Aliens and open border supporters, are driving business and citizens to other states & countries, while leaving the parasites & welfare leeches in an increasing bankrupt, crime ridden, dysfunctional state!
For years California has ignored economics 101 and imported Criminals, Uneducated Parasites, and poverty from Mexico, which increased Medical, Welfare, Crime, Prison, etc. & adding a estimated 22 billion per year to Calif. State expense to support the invading horde of Illegal Aliens while exporting business and educated tax payers.
Like all Socialist countries the results have been a astronomical increase in social welfare, schooling, prison cost etc. and a lowing of Living standards, Heath care, Education standards, Tax receipts & finally Bankruptcy.
The policies of Obama and Wash. DC Democrats are intent on following Calif. policies and Pro-Illegal Aliens, Pro-Unions and Anti-tax paying citizens and are endorsing the same socialist process of rewarding the Corrupt, Stupid, Foolish, Lazy, Greedy & Criminal while punishing the responsible, honest, law abiding & hard working citizens of American.
Failure to abide by our Constitution against invasion & enforce our Immigration laws and constraints on wages and benefits for public employees will result in turning the Golden State into MexiCalif and the end of the Calif. Dream and the beginning of the MexiCalif. Nightmare!
Amnesty & Citizenship as a reward for their invasion of the USA, with chain immigration will result in the rest of the USA turned into a Spanish speaking third world cesspool and follow California into a polluted, over populated, Spanish speaking, third world Slum of Crime, Corruption, Poverty, Cruelly & Misery modeled on Mexico!
This will result in a population depending on Welfare and the Democrat party, thus assuring the lock on power for the Socialist Democrat party of the United States of Mexico!
CA is in a tax/spend death spiral. Higher taxes on businesses and citizens will cause them to flee the State, resulting in less revenue, and calls for higher taxes to create more revenue. Just declare bankruptcy now, take the hit, and start fresh.
I would support a tax hike if it is coupled with substantive pension reform of government employees in California.
But nothing is being done about pensions. So this taxpayer will vote no on new taxes.
Jerry "the Jerk" Brown is so incompetent that he couldn't find his butt if he was sitting on both hands.
I am from Texas, and I think Californians should keep raising taxes and supporting their unions. Eventually, once the entire manufacturing and industrial base has moved to my state, property values may finally become reasonable for a normal person like me to buy some beachfront property. Regardless, keep raising taxes, we need more workers here in Texas!
Former Governor Schwarzenegger tried to correct the problems with public sector unions and pensions in a special election in 2005 that is now largely forgotten.
What a horrible price we are paying seven years later, and still the insane liberals in California remain blind to the ruin they promise to visit upon the state.
Half of the State's revenues already goes to schools and they want a tax that pours more money into that rat hole. L.A Unified has over 1,000 administrators making six figure salaries! Meanwhile the State employee unions and retirement plans are on track to bankrupt the State and this knuckle head is increasing spending 7%. We are screwed!
brown and any other liberal are continually sucking the blood out of this great state. no more taxes, stop the spending and force the seiu and other government based unions to put some skin in the game just like the rest of us!
The fact that the governor is going around saying that his tax is a "millionaire's tax" when it isn't -- and that all the money will go to schools, when it won't, should tell voters all they need to know when they go into the voting booth in November. He's not being up front with Californians about his intentions.
The Molly Munger/PTA initiative, "Our Children, Our Future" is hands down -- THE initiative for our students -- early childhood programs, preschool and K-12. The money is over and above any Prop 98 minimum the governor concocts. Time to get real.
Brown is blackmailing Californians. Why does Brown always pick-on the most vulnerable and education? He should close corporate and commercial tax loopholes, introduce an oil extraction tax, an oil corporation, windfall-profits tax, Chevron of San Ramon made $27 billions in 2011 and paid no federal tax, and trim the bond interest paid to Wall Street. These taxes have to be rolled-back. These budget cuts will prolong the recession.
