He said he heard Tom Blankenship . . . . I didn't take that to mean he believed it to be true, or wanted the reader to believe it was true.

It seems most reviewers were only looking for "gotcha" passages. So was "the team." Does anyone care how many thousands of acres his father had? It was vast, if not the number Clemens remembered. It was a memoir, not a history. It was fascinating and beautiful, hilarious and tragic.
