Before visiting Montpelier, I plan to re-read the Federalist Papers. The building can best be appreciated in the context of one the greatest minds of our country's founding hammering out our constitutional principles in that place.
I have lived in Virginia for quite a few years now but haven't visited Monticello or Montpelier. I look forward to making the time to visit both this summer. Great article.

Plan your next trip! Mother
Myron, great piece. I appreciate the "City Journal". I live outside of Detroit, MI. There is some really great writing contained within these virtual pages. :) Keep up the good work!
I'm drawn to Magnet's writing.
What a fine job. It feels real -- just like being with the restorers.
I've lived in Virginia for 15 years, and though I've visited Monticello, I've never made my way to Montpelier. I will make it a point to go there in the very near future.
