Mahna@ "The resilient argument is not only bullshit, it masks the horrible chaos the Left has wrought. 9/11 means shit to Liberals and to a large number of people."

The resilient part is true. The western world did not come apart at the seams as Osama bin Laden had hoped. The world is not in chaos but is more globalized and interconnected than ever. New York City, especially in the financial area where the terrorists attacked occurred, is more vibrant than ever. And democracy is still marching on, so much so that it sparked the 'Arab Spring'.

Have you seen newspaper editors publishing cartoons of Allah, lately? Did you ever think the US would release Gitmo prisoners, only to see them back in the war zone?
Did you ever think the man who represented Gitmo prisoners would one day head the Justice Department?

Jim from Maine: you're right, I don't get it. "Knock your block off" isn't a very new rule, the US have never been sitting back, as far as I know. During the invasion in Afghanistan, US troops had to deal with Taliban who were using weapons provided to them by Americans in the war against the Sovjets. How did that help those troops? And Iraq is one big mess, everybody is a loser in that war.
The US don't have to be friends with every country around the world. But continually emphasizing American supremacy and busting other peoples doors just spreads anger and frustration. Perhaps it makes US citizens feel better the short term, but on the long term it's just bad for trade and national security.

Willem, Arab tyrants have long slaughtered their own people. Now there is at least some hope of freedom. Totalitarianism is dead in Iraq; look there to find people who "look upon the US as a friend". We've won in Iraq, despite Obama's fecklessness.
You simply don't get it: we'll not sit back and just wait to "take it" any longer. We'll come "knock your block off " first. New rules.

I'm a European (Dutch), which makes me a near-communist by American standards almost by default. But while I think American liberalism can be hopelessly unpractical and expensive, I'm always so worried by the foreign policy proposed by American conservatives. Sure, you can argue that the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq (and effectively also Pakistan) have kept the US free from Al Qaida attacks since 2001. But what does that mean to those tens (hundreds?) of thousands people in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan who lost their loved ones? Their number, the majority of them innocent civilians, is far greater than American casualties. Those people will be especially grieved when they hear that the US government engaged in "preventive detention" and "enhanced interrogations". That's precisely the kind of practice and obfuscation they hated their former dictators for.
Ten years after 9/11, who in the middle east looks upon the US as a friend? Don't get me wrong, the 9/11 attacks were the most horrible thing that happened to the US since WOII. But I think that the US have created more frustration and anger in the muslim than there was in 2001. And I'm afraid that can only damage the US.

Dear Sir,

I just finished the PBS documentary (Empires: The Greeks - Crucible of Civilization) in which you were interviewed.

We are borrowing approximately 40 cents on the dollar to make ends meet. Our overseas empire and the war on terror are draining us in the same way that it drained ancient Greece.

We need to rethink the war on terror, our overseas empire, and must return to constitutionally limited government. Moreover, Ron Paul is the only one who is speaking honestly with people regarding our deeply flawed entitlement system.

Please consider writing an article on the good doctor. He strikes me as a Socrates-like citizen.

This is a very arresting sentence that ought to e repeated and repeated and repeated.....

...."When the Bush administration hyped WMD as the real casus belliâ€"and subsequently found none in Iraqâ€"most forgot that Congress had, in bipartisan fashion, voted for war on over 20 other counts as well, all legitimate and unquestioned."...

How disgustingly and dismissively short sighted have become all those permitting themselves to be influenced by the leftist news media.
