"Politically, the state is increasingly dominated by New York City, and the city’s politics are increasingly run by public-sector-union Democrats with a pre-Giuliani outlook."

Has there been any in-depth studies of splitting the state in two?

It seems like New York, California and Illinois are h***bent on Democrat controlled self destruction.

None of the rest of the country are in any mood to bail them out anymore, if the November elections are any indication. So those states are in for some pretty hard times as more businesses and working people flee.

Upstate New York will be especially hard hit, as it's economy has been poor for decades already. I was surprised how terrible it is in that part of the state the first time I visited last year even though I knew things weren't good. The politics of NYC are costing the rest of the Empire State big. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a movement to break the state into two parts, NYC and the rest of the state. Upstate really needs to move on.

I don't believe anyone could run far enough Left to suit those in New York City. They're always one step ahead and dragging the rest of the state with them.

They haven't learned and they won't learn in the future.

It makes one wonder if the water supply has been poisoned.

New York state is a disgraceful conglomeration of "politics as usual". I for one am hopeful that the voters will one day wake up and throw all the rascals out of office. Maybe then we can start over and truly be the Empire state.
Electing Andrew Cuomo....will be just more of the same....I'll vote for Paladino...upstate ought to get a chance to run things.

THIS COUNTRY IS CLEARLY NOW "US VS THEM". PRIVATE SECTOR VS "SO CALLED "PUBLIC SERVICE SECTOR" NEVER CLEARER THAN NEW YORK. THIS IS THE UNION BELL WEATHER FOR THE ENTIRE COUNTRY. IT IS NOW TOO LATE FOR PRIVATE CORPORATIONS AND SMALL BUSINESS ENTREPRENEURSHIP TO RESTORE THIS COUNTRY TO THE VALUES CREATED BY THE WORLD WAR 2 GENERATION OF AMERICANS. THEY NOW CONROL THE JOBS, THE ELECTIONS,IMMEGRATION, AND THE FUTURE OF THIS ONCE GREAT COUNTRY.

Yet another example of something I've been seeing. The Democrats have learned nothing.
